Launch of India’s E-Amrit web portal for electric vehicle information at COP26

India today launched “E-Amrit”, an electric vehicle (EV) web portal, at the ongoing COP26 summit in Glasgow, UK. electric vehicles, their purchase, investment opportunities, policies, subsidies, etc. The portal was developed and hosted by NITI Aayog as part of a knowledge exchange program in collaboration with the UK government and as part of the Joint UK-India Roadmap 2030, signed by the Prime Ministers from both countries.

E-Amrit intends to complement government initiatives to raise awareness of electric vehicles and educate consumers about the benefits of switching to electric vehicles. In the recent past, India has taken many initiatives to accelerate the decarbonization of transport and the adoption of electric mobility in the country. Programs such as FAME and PLI are particularly important in creating an ecosystem for the early adoption of electric vehicles.

NITI Aayog intends to add more features and introduce innovative tools to make the portal more interactive and user-friendly.

The launch was attended by high profile UK climate action champion Nigel Topping and NITI advisor Aayog Sudhendu Jyoti Sinha.

India’s ambition for electric vehicles is expected to create a market worth Rs 14.42 lakh crore by 2030, says a study by the CEEW Center for Energy Finance (CEEW-CEF), which adds that an investment of a value of Rs 12.5 lakh crore will be needed to achieve this ambition. .

India has not officially set its targets for electric vehicles, but the main government think tank, NITI Aayog, pointed out that 70% of all commercial cars, 30% of passenger cars, 40% of buses and 80% of two-wheel and three-wheeler sales would be electric by 2030.
