Center launches web portal for wetlands

New Delhi: The Union government on Saturday launched a “Wetlands of India Portal” web portal that will provide detailed information on the country’s wetlands.

The portal was launched by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti here in New Delhi.

“The portal is a single point of access to all information relating to wetlands across the country,” said in the official statement.

The portal is a dynamic system for processing information and making it available to stakeholders in an efficient and accessible manner.

It will also host capacity building material, a data repository, videos and information for students.

Importantly, a dashboard for each state and UT has been developed to access the portal and populate it with information about wetlands in their administration.

The release states that login credentials have also been provided for knowledge partners.

The portal also enables citizen engagement and they can register and download wetland related images on different themes.

It is important to note that registered citizens can choose to commit to becoming the Mitra Wetland and indicate their State / TU and areas of interest.

This information would allow States and UTs to contact interested persons for various programs and initiatives.
